How do you refer to things in Dutch? Which pronouns should you use? Below you will find an explanation about the Dutch pronouns for referring to things.
1. De-woorden (singular)
- De taart is lekker.
- The cake is tasty.
- Hij is lekker.
- It is tasty.
- Wil je hem proeven?
- Do you want to try it?
All de-words are referred to as hij (subject) or hem (object).
2. Het-woorden (singular)
- Het boek is mooi.
- The book is beautiful.
- Het is mooi.
- It is beautiful.
- Wil je het lenen?
- Do you want to borrow it?
All het-words are referred to as het (subject) / het (object).
3. Plural: Ze
- De taarten zijn lekker.
- Ze zijn lekker.
- Wil je ze proeven?
- De boeken zijn mooi.
- Ze zijn mooi.
- Wil je ze lenen?
