Listen up, speak out: Weekly Dutch!
Listen up, speak out: Weekly Dutch is a language course designed to develop your Dutch through a balanced focus on reading, listening, vocabulary building, and speaking.
The lessons will be guided by an experienced teacher: Gialt.
Lesson preparation: text with audio
Each week, participants work with a Dutch text (B1 level), supported by an audio recording.
This helps strengthen your understanding of written and spoken Dutch in context, improve pronunciation, and expand vocabulary naturally.
Vocabulary building: flashcards and quiz questions
Before each session, students prepare using the flashcards and short quiz questions based on the weekly text.
Live session
In the live 60-minute sessions (via Zoom), you use your preparation to take part in the conversation. The interactive lessons are all about fun, 'gezelligheid', and gaining experience talking!
Groups are small and guided by an experienced teacher.
The course includes:
- 8 weekly sessions (1 hour each, Zoom)
- 8 Dutch texts with matching audio recordings
- Flashcards for vocabulary practice for each text
- Quiz questions for self-study
- Discussion questions for each session, so you can prepare for the conversation if you like
- Small groups, minimum 3 participants
- Two months access to The Dutch Online Academy Pro learning environment
This course is perfect for B1 students who really want to work on their vocabulary and use the language in everyday conversations.

One week before the start date you will receive a Zoom link and the instructions for the first lesson. A reminder will be sent the day the lesson takes place. When you click the link you will join a Zoom call with your teacher and fellow students.
Missing one or more lessons isn't a problem for most courses: you can continue with the course.
It's not possible to make up for the lesson in another group or future course. You will, however, receive the lesson notes. If you'd like, you can write about the topic of the missed lesson. You can send your piece of text to the teacher and receive feedback on your writing.
Just send an email to info@thedutchonlineacademy.com describing your language learning background and goals. Our teacher will think along with you and send you some example materials.
We have spent a long time considering the ideal group size for each course. In the course description, you'll find a description of the amount of participants (minimum & maximum). The groups are relatively small and rarely bigger than 5 to 7 students.
Preparation varies by course. In the course description, you will find more details. You will also receive instructions about lesson preparation in the first email, sent one to two weeks before the start of the course.
All materials are included in our courses and shared via email. The only exception is the book club. If you participate in the book club, you must purchase and read the book (for more info, look at our reading club).
With a PRO account, you'll have access to unlimited flashcards, PRO podcasts, all the Video Courses and the Wordle history. It's included in certain courses for extra learning support. In the course description you'll see how many months access are included. If you buy multiple courses with a PRO account included, the one with the longest time of access will be applied. If you already have a yearly PRO subscription, the purchase of a course including PRO access doesn't change your account.
When the access period has expired (so when the course ends), you can continue your PRO access by purchasing a PRO subscription or enrolling in a follow-up course with access to PRO.
