The small word er is used in five ways. Here we take a look at the third one.
Er as a place
Er replaces the place. The place should be clear by context.
- Ben jij ooit in Spanje geweest? Ja, ik ben er geweest.
- Wat doe jij in het park? Ik lees er een boek.
- Ben je in het huis van Piet geweest? Ja, ik heb er vorige week een kop koffie gedronken.
You could also use the words hier (here) or daar (there), instead of er.
