The personal form (finite verb) is in second place in a sentence. Sometimes the subject then follows after the personal form. This is called inversion.
No inversion:
- De studenten gaan vanavond naar de bioscoop.
- Ik koop morgen een nieuwe fiets.
- Je kunt in Italië lekker eten.
Inversion:
- Vanavond gaan de studenten naar de bioscoop.
- Morgen koop ik een nieuwe fiets.
- In Italië kun je lekker eten.
If you start the sentence with a different part than the subject, you must use inversion.
