Sommige: not always like some

Sommige is often translated as "some". In some cases, this is correct. But there are exceptions.
Sommige can be used for:
a) certain
b) some of them
Sommige can not be used for
c) a small amount
  • Ik ben allergisch voor sommige groenten (a).
  • Ik heb veel boeken in mijn kast. Sommige heb ik nog niet gelezen (b).
  • Ik heb wat/een paar/enkele nieuwe woorden geleerd (c).
