The difference between thuis and huis in Dutch
Soms lijken "thuis" en "huis" op elkaar:
- Ik ga naar huis.
- I am going home.
- Ik ben thuis.
- I am home.
Wat is het verschil? Het is eenvoudig: thuis betekent at home en wordt bijna nooit gecombineerd met een prepositie.
Huis kan worden gebruikt als house, maar ook als home als je het combineert met een prepositie.
Voorbeelden
- Ik blijf thuis (no preposition).
- I stay at home.
- Ik ben graag thuis (no preposition).
- I like to be home.
- Ik ga naar huis (a preposition).
- I am going home.
- Ik heb geen eten in huis (a preposition).
- Ik heb geen eten thuis (no preposition).
- I don't have food at home.
- hoe laat vertrek jij vanuit huis? (a preposition)
- What time do you leave home?
- Dit is mijn huis.
- This is my house.
